Head

For all you tiki-heads out there, here is the latest addition to my bar-ware... A shrunken head bottle bought on eBay, sculpted by a man in Glasgow by the name of Garnet. Superbly made, it fills a nice gap if you need something a bit larger than a hip-flask. Collecting tiki stuff is completely different from collecting ceramic animals- those people are crazy.

Shack party

Up til the 1970s the A6 was the main north-south route on the west into Scotland. On the highest point of this road there is a tiny little brick hut that was owned by British telecom. Surplus to requirement in the modern digital world this hut was auctioned off and an acquaintance of mine bought it with the express purpose of putting gigs on every full moon. It's much bigger inside than it appears and upstairs (yes, there are 2 floors) in the music room I could just about stand my bass up but had to crouch to play it. We played an hour of the finest hobo music known to man, got drunk and had a great if very snug gig. We met David at the top after he had just celebrated his halfway point on the Lands End to John O'Groats unicycle trip. It's not every day you unicycle to the top of a mountain pass on a thousand mile trip and get invited to a party in the only building as far as the eye can see.

Rough.

That I still feel rough today is a testament to what a great time I had at the Hayride. Sat in the Pavillion catching up with old mates over a few beers, watching all the crazy cats with their crazy vehicles go by in the sunshine- what could be better? I'll tell you what- dancing into the night to some awesome bands (Tex Speed Combo was my favourite and it turns out I know the singer from ages ago, small world) and awesome DJs, drinking more with old buddies and new friends. And then doing the same the very next night. There was so much going on I'm sure I missed loads of it but I had my good time and that's all that counts.

6over

Once I got over that it wasn't about cricket and it didn't have enough rockabilly music in it, I really enjoyed it.
